Beam Solver app showing a simply supported beam with a point load, its free body diagram, shear force and bending moment diagrams and the support reactions

Features

What Beam Solver does

Any supports

Pin, roller and fixed supports anywhere along the span: simply supported, cantilever, propped, fixed-fixed, overhanging and continuous beams.

All common loads

Point loads, applied moments and distributed loads, uniform or linearly varying. Locations can be entered as a distance or a percent of the span.

Diagrams and reactions

Support reactions, shear force diagram, bending moment diagram and deflection, with the governing values and where they occur.

Statically indeterminate beams

Continuous and fixed beams are solved exactly, not approximated, with an equilibrium check on every result.

Real or relative deflection

Leave E and I blank for the deflected shape, or enter them for real deflection values.

Units, tables and reports

Metric, imperial or your own mix of units, a results table you can download as CSV, a PDF report, undo and redo, and saved models.

Method

How the beam is solved

  • The beam is analyzed with the direct stiffness method using Euler-Bernoulli beam elements, the same approach used by structural analysis software.
  • This solves statically determinate and indeterminate beams the same way, so continuous spans and fixed ends need no special treatment.
  • Every solve is done in a consistent SI basis and converted back to your display units, so mixed units never introduce errors.
  • The equilibrium check compares the total applied load with the sum of the reactions for every result.
  • Shear deformations are not included (Euler-Bernoulli theory), which suits ordinary beams of normal proportions.

How to use it

  1. 01

Enter the span length, and optionally E and I for real deflections.

  2. 02

Add the supports: pin, roller or fixed, at any location.

  3. 03

Add point loads, moments and distributed loads.

  4. 04

Read the reactions and diagrams, then download the table or the PDF report.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can it solve continuous and fixed beams?

Yes. It uses the direct stiffness method, so beams with any number of supports, including fixed ends and continuous spans, are solved exactly.

Do I need E and I?

No. Without them the app shows the correct deflected shape with relative values. Enter both E and I to get real deflections.

Which units can I use?

Metric or imperial presets, or a custom mix of length, force, moment, distributed load, E and I units.

Is there a limit on loads or supports?

Online models can have up to 25 point loads, 25 moments, 25 distributed loads and 25 supports, which covers everyday beams comfortably.

Is it free?

Yes. The app is free to use in your browser while TekStructa is in beta. There is nothing to install.
